We Brake for Leprechauns . . .

We're on the lookout on the road.  And, while I've yet to see a Leprechaun, I do feel their spirit here.  This is one green, green magical place, where everyone at every encounter  has kind words and a ready smile.

We are 10 cyclists with three guide/escorts who load our Garmin on-bike GPS units, keep our water bottles full, shuttle our luggage ahead, and provide us with M&Ms.  And, in my case, they find me when I miss a turn.  They truly take care of our every need.  As with my Italy walking and hiking trip last year, I can't say enough about the company Backroads and their people.

I'm doing about 30 miles a day on the bike.  And there's a fair amount of up and down; it's a land of rolling hills.  Everywhere we go we see bucolic landscapes of green pastures, mirror-still water, and stands of majestic trees that look as if they were painted on canvas.  There are stone walls and hedgerows, ferns, wild flowers, berries, and even clover.  And we hear the sounds of babbling water, bleating sheep, mooing cows and birdsong.

And what a great group.  I'm the oldest, but no one treats me that way, which I love!  We're staying in historic 'Manor House' hotels and dining on fresh farm-sourced produce and meats.  I'm definitely living a charmed life here.  Three more days to go, so tomorrow we ride on  .  .  .
