The Majestic Serengeti

The Great Rift Valley, Oldupai George, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.  They're storied place names that seem exotic, and a world away.  And we've seen it all, and all of the animals, too!  Beyond the 'Big 5', we've been photo-close to all of what's known as the 'Best 10', starting with the lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and buffalo, and adding cheetah, hippo, crocodile, zebra and giraffe.  I've kept a list, and in our 10 game drives we've seen 31 different types of animals.  In the middle of five days on rough, dusty dirt roads, we took to the air for a hot air balloon safari. We skimmed along close to the ground, and also rose to 1000+ feet.  Suspended in a 16-passenger basket, we watched animals gather, travel and take off running.  We scraped the tops of trees, and saw a pond of more than 100 hippos from overhead, as well as hundreds of zebra migrating in a line.  The landscape itself is majestic, and the animals are magnificent.  So many people consider an African safari the dream trip of a lifetime.  For me, it definitely lived-up to the dream.
