Camping in the Serengeti

With comfy beds, crisp linens, china, stemware and hot water poured to order, this is the way to camp!  Our four evenings at a private tented camp in Serengeti National Park started with a hot shower taken with water from a freshly-delivered five-gallon bucket hoisted above our tents.  That felt SO good after dusty, dry game drives.  Then we gathered around a fire to exchange stories of the day.  Three different vehicles meant three different experiences.  There was a candlelit tent set for table-service dining.  And after our three-course meal we returned to the fire and the star-filled sky.  Bedtime meant an escort to our individual tents.  Flush toilets were en suite because we were in for the night.  There were hyenas, jackals and even lions in the area; we heard them from our beds.  And on two different nights we actually had elephants just outside our tents!  Sleep was easy under warm covers.  And all too soon the hot water was delivered again, this time to a basin, and with the greeting 'jambo jambo'.  This was our pre-dawn wake-up call.  The animals were waiting  .  .  .
