Roman troops famously re-took the mountaintop citadel of Masada from Zionist zealots in 73 AD, and my new friend Rod and I 'conquered' it, too. While the rest of our group of 14 took the aerial tram, we two climbed a series of steep switchbacks called the 'Snake Trail', ascending 1,000 feet from the base. And we got hats as our reward.
