A Day on the Water
Today we took to the waterways of the Mekong River Delta, first in a motorboat, and then a flat-bottomed sampan. Millions of farmers and fishermen are reliant on the Mekong river, as is all of Vietnam. This region supplies the country with most of its rice, fruit and seafood. And rice travels abroad, too, as Vietnam is the world's second biggest rice exporter, second only to Thailand. That's my travel partners Linda (behind) and Susie as we're paddled through a canopy of lush green fronds.
