After all of my international travel of late, it's time for a road trip! So, off I go . . .
Some of you will remember that I drove cross-country-and back 10 years ago. Well, I'm doing it again. It all started this time with a desire to visit my friends Bob and Rita Rao, and her brother Tom, and see their lifestyle. They traded ocean views in California for views of Lake Keowee in South Carolina, and they love it there. My friend Cynthia is driving up from her home in Charleston to join us.
I'm visiting other friends all along the way. I'll be driving alone, as I did last time, but I have my iPhone loaded with music, plus audio books, and even a GPS-based AAA TripTik app that will help me navigate. I've entered my itinerary addresses, and it will provide turn-by-turn instructions for the entire trip, speaking them to me if I want it to!
I'll be in a 4-door this time, versus the Porsche Boxter in 2001. And I'm packing my 2-man tent again, but doubt I'll 'tent' more than 3 or 4 nights this time. I'm taking a southerly route from home, and as you can see above, I plan to go as far east as Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. Then I'll return across the middle of the country, seeing friends in Chicago and my niece Carrie in Colorado. I'll be gone a month, and expect I'll travel close to 7000 miles.
I plan to post photos and captions all along the way, so check back and come along for the ride . . .
