They’re Biking too!

Bravo, we’re in Italy for Giro d’Italia, this country’s answer to the Tour de France.   It caused us some inconvenience, but what fun to share in the excitement!  We saw competitors as they blurred through Sorrento today on a 97-mile round trip from Naples.  This was Stage Six of 21 for this three-week event.

An ESPN headline comparing the Giro to the Tour de France reads ‘Giro vs Tour?  It’s all about the Pasta’.  In addition to better food, riders say that it’s more intimate, and has better roads and more beautiful scenery. And this race is clearly fueled by Italian passion, as they even close schools for the event.

I’ll be biking in Croatia next week, but taking my time in just three, considerably shorter ‘stages’.   And I don’t think they’ll be clearing the roads for us.
