Abu Dhabi, another Emirate, is just a two-hour drive from Dubai. So I went for the day, and saw: 1) The huge, opulent, white marble Grand Mosque; 2) the architecturally amazing Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi, and 3) the Emirates Palace Hotel, where everything — including the coffee — is guided in gold!

Indeed the Emirates Palace is the hotel I mentioned and is where my friend grew up!
